The Lindeberg designed estate of Ellsleigh in Biltmore Forest, near Asheville, NC, was completed in 1927 for Robert Lee Ellis, former president of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Asheville. Architect Gregory Koester, who worked on the restoration of Lindeberg’s personal home, provides a unique insight into the design and evolution of this estate. The webinar is enriched by a treasure trove of documents found in the home, including elevations and correspondence between Lindeberg and Ellis. The webinar also features interviews with two modern era owners and a video tour of many of the notable elements, along with the interior design work of Ernesta Beaux. There will be a live Q and A following the presentation.
Greg Koester holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Virginia. He has also completed the Summer Intensive Program at the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. He began his career in the New York City offices of Jed Johnson and Alan Wanzenberg before partnering with a colleague to open a design firm in Winston-Salem, NC. He is now the sole proprietor of the Asheville, NC-based firm Gregory Koester Design. His firm specializes in the design of new houses and renovations and additions to old houses in a wide variety of traditional styles. Greg is obsessed with that gang in the twenties that included Lindeberg, Adler, Bottomley, Delano, and Platt, who brought, in conjunction with the required scholarly gravitas, a light and elegant touch to the traditional design of their day.
